Many parents struggle with ‘when should the switch from baby food to adult food happen?’ Most experts will tell you that the child actually decides. They will let you know when it’s time to make the change… and not a second sooner!

The Next Best Thing

One woman on the Internet had a 7 year old and an 18 month old. She felt bad because her 7 year old felt left out when the adults had chips and salsa… the 7 year old dislikes spicy foods. The 18 month old, however, loves spicy food. So what to do? She came up with a recipe that seems to make both of them happy. It’s Baby Salsa. If you’re in the mood for a little chips and salsa, but don’t want the kids to have the same type you’re having; give this a try:

  • 1- 28oz can tomatoes
  • A PINCH of each of the following; salt, granulated garlic, onion powder and Mexican oregano.
  • Drain and Chop tomatoes to desired consistency
  • Mix all together and let set for a while
  • Serve with lightly salted tortilla chips

The One Year Mark

Most babies will be eating adult food by the time they hit 1 year old. If, however, they’re just not having it, don’t worry. They will get curious enough (and hungry enough) that in their own good time, what you eat will start looking pretty good to them. Some things that both of you might enjoy together are:

  • (Toast and) scrambled eggs
  • (Bread and) soup
  • Ham/cheese sandwiches
  • Spaghetti (mild sauce)
  • Roasted chicken (easy on the skin)
  • Apple pie (easy on the spices)

Babies like bland baby food because even though it’s bland to us, it’s a whole new experience for their brand new taste buds. Those taste buds will develop in time, and crave more flavors eventually. Using Avent Via refill cup can make storing and serving food on the go easier.
